- A nomination must be received from a Canadian institution with a Vanier Scholarship quota.
- Nomination is conducted by a single Canadian institution that has secured a Vanier Scholarship quota.
- The prospective applicants must pursue their first doctoral degree, which includes joint programs such as MD/Ph.D., JD/Ph.D., DVM/Ph.D., or MBA/Ph.D., provided they possess a demonstrated and significant research component.
